Note: Please refer to Jedi's review if you want to actually hear about what the film is like.

I'm merely voicing the absurdity of how on Earth some individuals could even remotely see a similarity between two completely opposite films (Scott Pilgrim & Fight Club.)

___________t(O_*)t______________________

I just had to see what all the hype about Scott Pilgrim was about because I keep hearing about how artistic & thought provoking it supposedly is.
SP is not an indie art house film nor is it "different". To spout as such would be to ignore the immense history of cinema. 7 Samurai it's not. Most of you SP nuthuggers who praise this film as a masterpiece are only doing so simply because it flopped. The characters & story were pedestrian.

People are even comparing Scott Pilgrim to Fight Club.

Well actually SP fans are under the assumption that SP will become a cult hit on dvd much like Fight Club. When you read in between the lines it seems as if Scott Pilgrim fans believe that "SP vs the World" is of similar caliber & social political relevance as Fight Club.
Which causes I to scratch my head in confusion. Are these individuals even aware of what Fight Club was about? Quite frankly, I sincerely doubt it.

If they did then they honestly wouldn't make such an asinine comparison.

Fight Club was a journey among men rebelling against the decline of male masculinity within a society that has grown increasingly intolerant

towards normal primitive male impulse.

Tyler (pictured left) is a state of mind.
He's a dream self that most men strive to be like but they can not because most men are easily influenced by the dreams of grandeur that were promised to them since they were kids from the first day they attended school all the way up to the constant penetration into our ego through the mass media.

Tyler is a human personification of anger towards a generation of manchildren who grew up in a modern day feminist society that often dictates to us how we should live our life.
"You should go out & get a job, you should go out and get married, you should go out and have kids, you should grow old & die happily doing nothing but what a prewritten script told you what you should do with your life."

What they never tell you about this supposed dream scenario is that all it does is keep us caged in a routine that profits those behind the mass marketization of watered down ideas rather than empowering the mind & body of the individual.

The current generation of young boys today don't have the struggles of generations past that enabled our elders the strength & individuality that led them to become men.
The Tyler Durden character is meant to be a rebellion of the pre written script of life.

Tyler is supposed to represent anti capitalism and anti mass marketization.

Scott Pilgrim is the opposite of this paradigm. Scott Pilgrim revels in gluttonous consumerism of pop culture that is actually a fictionalized construct propagated by corporate suits in an attempt to dominate the minds of the easily influenced youth. It's precisely for this reason that the mere utterance of Scott Pilgrim & Fight Club being included in the same sentence as fine examples of two socially relevant works of art is beyond preposterous. Perhaps even more so then my run on sentence just now, Ha hah.

Elevating Scott Pilgrim to the status of art simply due to an adoration of the visuals is ridiculous.
Especially since the visuals were all done by computer. It's all unnatural.
The reason people loved Kitano & Kurosawa's sense of cinematography is because they actually found ways to create beautiful scenery just from the way they compositioned their frames & shots.

Almost every single shot in Kitano's Sonatine or Hana-Bi could be made into a postcard because that's how much attention to detail Kitano took when filming his set pieces.

In Kitano films, the way he captures death on film is a work of art due to the carefully thought out positioning of his actors who are specifically placed in front of a still camera that frames a timeless moment as if it were a painting. This is but one example (from a list of many great directors from Leone, Kurosawa to Scorsece etc.) of how artistically beautiful live action films should look.

The castles burning down scene in Kurosawa's Ran was epic and it cost millions to make the props for that shot but it was worth it.
It was a powerful scene that stays with you no matter how much time passses by.
That's what true artistic film making is about to me.
Scott Pilgrim is just the current "Indie geek hipster Irony of all ironies" in thing right now but I highly doubt that it will be remembered a decade from now.

With all that said I was willing to give Scott Pilgrim a fair chance.

THE VERDICT:

Everything that could be considered genius or original about Scott Pilgrim has already been done in Kung Fu Hustle, The Matrix, Speed Racer, Adam West's Batman, etc.
Personally speaking , SP is a piece of shit and is a pure example of everything that is wrong with modern society today.

it's a fucking joke that this movie is being compared to Fight Club.
Sure Scott Pilgrim was metaphorical too. The plot is basically about growing up and learning to take responsibility. Scott even had to die and get a game over first before he learned his lesson.

It's an okay movie. SP vs the World is at least much better than similar fare that relies on computer gimmickry such as Speed Racer.

The fighting is exactly as I suspected it would be.
It's some faux Chinese kung fu bullshit that's been in vogue with every movie since the Matrix.

Randomness for the sake of randomness in a non surreal plot is just pointless. Which brings me to another thing that I couldn't stand about Scott Pilgrim.

What was up with all the random nods & in jokes to late 80's early 90's videogame pop culture?

I recognize the Final Fantasy theme. I recognize the tri force legend of Zelda theme. I know what pac man is and the entire end battle played out like a level from No More Heroes.
Hell, near the end of the movie Scott even gets his own little Shinobu sidekick in the form of an underage Chinese ninja schoolgirl.

Even though I comprehend most of the in jokes. I still don't get what's supposed to be so fucking funny & genius about the inclusion of such pointless crap.

An immense wealth of knowledge within a genre, medium, or appliance that's as devoid of cultural relevancy and abundant in intellectual trash as video games is about as bloated and nonsensical as this overly long run on sentence. (Whoo hoo two in the same review!)

The only joke that came anywhere near close to eliciting a laugh from I was when Ramona asked who the Chinese girl was.
Scott replied with "I gotta pee on her." LOL, he meant to say "I gotta go pee."

You just know that your sense of humour sucks if you have to rely on potty jokes just to get some laughs that are much more universal than the in jokes geek wankery of obscure bullshit.

The writing is asstrocious progressive liberal spew that caters to men who grew up under feminazism.

The delusional SP fans dare compare this gimmick infested piece of excrement to Brad Pitt's "FIGHT CLUB". What's comical is that Fight Club was a call to arms against the feminization of modern society. Scott Pilgrim basks in the vast oceans of mass consumerism as if it were outright mocking Fight Club.

You know what I hated most? Scott Pilgrim. First off he sounds like a girl.
Second his approach to women is very retarded.
He actually asks Ramona if he could go out with her.
He asks Ramona if they could fuck each other on some bed.
He asks if it's okay to take her out somewhere.
He asks.... you get the picture.
Then there's the whole deal with the 7 evil ex boyfriends.

Meh, I feel sorry for young men of this generation. This is who their heroes are? A fucking bony faggot with a woman voice who can't even speak to women properly?

Not only that Scott Pilgrim is a fucking pedophile.
I come from a different era where men knew how to take charge instead of letting women make all the decisions for them.

There's nothing wrong with women with dominant personalities.
My favorite character in Dragon Quest V is Debora because she's sexy as hell and has a very intimidating dominant personality.
It works with Deborah because she only wants a real man who can take care of her to court her.
DO NOT CLICK | KCILC TON OD

The Ramona character gets on my nerves cos she's just some ugly slut who for some reason has shit loads of exs.
Well there's one character whom I found decent.
That Hispanic or Asian chick (I have no idea what she was.) who cussed a lot.
She's hilarious because she's constantly bleeped out.
Scott Pilgrim may have been much more successful with its comedy had it stuck with that type of off beat humour instead of referencing all of this self indulgent pop culture bullshit.

That reminds moi. I can't stand videogames that play like movies.
Similarly I thought the gimmick near the end of Scott Pilgrim vs the World was obnoxious when he had to continue after getting a game over precisely because I actually had to watch through the same exact final battle scenes over again as if I were playing a video game with heavy cutscenes.
I hate that shit in videogames. Why the fuck would I want to see that in a movie?

We live in a society that doesn't even know how to socialize let alone differentiate between the sexes anymore.
We live in a society where men have grown so complacent with being incompetent douchebags that they need women to control & guide them in life. (A man should know how to take control of their own destiny.)
We live in a society that is so ass backwards that we praise losers such as Scott Pilgrim as

our heroes when he's just some filthy pedophile with very awkward social skills.

It's sad how in one end, you get a movie like the Expendables where old man Mickey Rourke is a man and slaps the hot blonde piece of ass on the ass.
Then on the other end we have Scott Pilgrim, a faggot who constantly asks for the woman's approval in everything, everything. Let me repeat that, EVERYTHING.

"Can I sleep with you?"
What the fuck is that shit? He's such a tool that when he wants to avoid conversation with someone that instead of telling people to shut the fuck up or bitch slapping them. SP tells people that he has to go pee. (As if he were a woman.)
He even has to cook Ramona dinner because she apparently doesn't know how nor care to. (Yet she sure has a shit load of crazy ex boyfriends.)
Not only that, Scott lives with three gay people or at the least 4 males sleep in the same bed, lol.
To top it off he's even a pedophile. I can't understand how a movie with such audacious (non Christian) norms was being pandered off as the rival for Sly's Expendables.

I'm not even a Christian nor religious and the thought of a pedophile, effeminate sleeps in the same bed with gays and has a girl friend who looks like a dyke (Well, she's Bi.) who doesn't even cook as the main character is very disgusting to me.
I'm not all that conservative to begin with but I do find myself leaning more & more towards that train of thought after witnessing how fucked up the world has gotten due to the backwards nature of progressive liberalism.

I think it's sad how even a couple of pretty Jap guys (Gackt & Hyde)

still posses very manly mannerisms.

Yet a modern American (Canadian?) youth is amazingly sheepish. I'm aware that SP is just a comic but he's a reflection of what today's youth actually is like.
I never thought I'd see the day where I'd relate more to a bunch of old ass geezers (Sly's 40 to 60 + old Expendables crew.) rather than people within my own age group. (20's)

[2/5] Add + 2 to my score if you actually get or understand this hipster geek nerd culture bullshit.

Randumb Vampire guy : Topdrunkee of USA.

He's a LooNY mothafucka.

He's the creator, the architect behind the Killer 7 SINdicate.
Well, that's the official story that I've heard. We've received some conflicting reports that he's actually one of the unheard of bastard children of the legendary Segata Sanshiro.
Which would at least explain why he has such a hardcore militant attitude toward everything in life no matter how miniscule.
We've also heard that this current Topdrunkee is just a digital clone of the original Topdrunkee who has been transplanted inside a mannequin that was made in his own image.
The whereabouts of the real Topdrunkee is anyone's guess. Maybe he stuck his middle finger inside an electric socket, & died. Maybe he was standing near a stripper who got shot in the tits, and died from the explosion of her implanted breasts that imported self detonating bombs? Who knows?
Who gives a fuck!
